Westchester : Educator Named to Panel
Marion Hogue, a former high school teacher, has been named to Los Angeles Unified School District’s central council, which will oversee decentralization efforts.
Hogue, of Westchester, was appointed to a one-year term by Westside’s representative to the school board, Mark Slavkin.
The central council will supervise decision-making committees to be established at each school, under provisions of the new labor contract between the teachers and school district. The committees are to be composed of teachers, parents and administrators.
The 24-member central council consists of five members named by the superintendent, seven named by board members, and 12 members of United Teachers-Los Angeles.
Hogue chairs a school-based management committee for the PTA and serves on the advisory council at Loyola Village Elementary School. On the education committee of the Westchester/LAX Chamber of Commerce, she helped start a program in which business people tutor elementary school students.
Merle Strauss of Brentwood was appointed an alternate to the council. Strauss chairs the decision-making committee of the Palisades Complex, a group of parents, teachers, administrators and community members.
