Break in Landing Gear Blamed in Trump Jet Mishap

BOSTON — A broken piece of landing gear on a Trump Shuttle airliner was blamed by investigators Friday in the jet’s emergency landing in a shower of sparks at Logan International Airport while carrying 56 people.
Inspectors from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration were still trying to determine, however, what caused the part in the locking mechanism of the landing gear of the Boeing 727 to break, an NTSB official said.
The inspectors also found a part of the landing gear had been missing for as long as nine years, but said they could not gauge what effect it might have had on the craft.
Flight 1012, traveling from New York to Boston, skidded in a shower of sparks to a safe landing Thursday on its nose and rear landing gear after the front landing gear jammed. The Trump Shuttle is owned by New York real estate billionaire Donald J. Trump.
