A 17-year-old Santa Ana youth sleeping in a bedroom was critically wounded in a drive-by shooting early Saturday, authorities said.

The boy, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was in critical condition at United Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

The shooting, at 3818 S. Teakwood Ave., apparently stemmed from an earlier argument between another resident of the Teakwood address and an unidentified man, Santa Ana police said.

The suspect drove by the home at 2:12 a.m. and sprayed the house with bullets from a 9-millimeter semiautomatic assault weapon, police said.

His intended target, whom police also would not identify, was not injured.
