WORLD : Chinese Policewoman Executed
From Times wire services
BEIJING —
Authorities have executed a policewoman in Canton for taking tens of thousands of dollars in bribes, official reports said today.
Major state newspapers and television reports said the policewoman, Zhang Mayun, took bribes worth $56,150 in exchange for allowing people to remain in the southern city illegally.
She was sentenced to death June 19, but the reports did not say exactly when she was executed. Death sentences in China are usually carried out within a day or two with a bullet to the back of the head.
