Marines Hit Ohio Beach Amid Cheers, Protests

LORAIN, Ohio —
Thousands of people cheered Tuesday, and 15 protested, as Marines stormed city-owned Lakeview Beach on Lake Erie in a recruitment drive. Police estimated that 10,000 people watched about 100 Marines land on the beach in four landing craft.
Fifteen people held a silent protest at a gazebo overlooking the beach, displaying anti-war placards and distributing literature.
