Schools to Get Videos: Whittle Communications said it has signed a $150-million contract with Philips Consumer Electronics Co. to install video equipment in high schools for Whittle’s new educational network. Philips will supply a complete communications system for the schools, including 30,00 color television sets, 15,000 videotape recorders and 8,000 satellite dishes. Whittle plans to launch the network next March and have 8,000 schools hooked up by December, 1990. It will offer a daily news program called Channel One, which has come under fire for its commercials from some educators, including California’s superintendent of schools.
