Car Dealer’s Permit Weighed

Share

The Hermosa Beach Planning Commission will consider revoking the conditional use permit of the Vasek Polak BMW car dealership because of noise and other complaints from residents living near the business at 2901 Pacific Coast Highway.

The neighbors have objected to an outdoor paging system, testing and parking of cars on residential streets and other business activities, said Building and Safety Director Bill Grove.

Vasek Polak declined to comment on the dispute.

Polak has operated a dealership on the coastal highway since 1969 and has been in the car business in Hermosa Beach for 30 years. Grove said the city entered into a development agreement with Polak in 1986 that called for the city to vacate an alley in return for Polak’s pledge to make improvements at the site and stay in business there for 10 years.

The agreement also imposed additional conditions on the firm’s operations, Grove said, and the commission will consider whether the business has violated one of those conditions by expanding the business to an adjacent property without city approval.

Grove said the revocation hearing probably will not be held until October because of the time required to send notices to the affected parties.
