Non-Stop Flight Record: A lightly loaded Qantas Airlines 747-400 jet set a long-distance, nonstop commercial flight record, traveling more than 11,000 miles in just over 20 hours, Boeing Co. announced. Boeing spokesman Jim Boynton said the brand-new jumbo jet flew the 11,156 miles from London to Sydney, Australia, on Wednesday in 20 hours and 8 minutes. The aircraft’s normal range is 8,000 miles with a full passenger and cargo load, but for the record flight the jet had only 23 people and no luggage aboard. The old record of 10,281 miles was set in 1976 by a South African Airways 747SP flying from Everett, Wash., to Capetown, South Africa.
