Shooting of Suspects Is Ruled Justified

The district attorney’s office said Friday that two San Diego police officers were legally justified when they shot two suspects near Logan Heights.
Ramon Joseph Rachel, 25, and Rodney Jones, 26, were both wounded in the May 31 confrontation with Officers Sylvester Wade and Jeff Durbin, said Dist. Atty. Edwin Miller.
The two officers were chasing a car with six to seven men inside who were believed to be armed with automatic weapons. The car spun out of control and crashed into a building near 43rd and Z streets.
The men began to flee when one them pointed a gun toward the officers, Miller said.
Rachel and Jones were each shot once in the leg, Miller said.
