A child, bitten by a timber wolf at the Fresno Zoo, was hospitalized with a six-inch gash in his leg and the wolf was put in quarantine, but the toddler’s parents said they don’t blame the zoo for the accident. Christopher May, 19 months, was bitten when he wandered away from his mother, discovered a small hole near a service gate at the wolf exhibit, and stuck his foot into the opening. His mother, Nita May, reached the child just as the 7-year-old wolf grabbed his leg. Nita May said no one is to blame for the accident, but urged the zoo to fence off the service area. “Eventually, this was going to happen to some baby,” she said. The wolf will be released from quarantine when officials determine it carries no disease, such as rabies.
