France’s Jeannie Longo and Italy’s Claudio Golinelli each gained a second gold medal Saturday in the World Cycling Championships.

Longo won the women’s 30-kilometer points race after Golinelli took the men’s professional keirin title.

The keirin, unique to professional racing, is a high-speed event, with the cyclists vying for position behind a motorized pacer. Then, with 1 1/2 laps to go, the pacer goes off the track, and it’s a race to the finish for the final 500 meters.

Longo, winner of the individual pursuit title Friday, has won seven world championships since 1985.

Saturday, Longo took the 90-lap race that awards points for intermediate sprints as well as the overall winner. Switzerland’s Barbara Ganz finished second, and Janie Eickhoff, 19, a 1987 double world junior champion from Los Alamitos was third.

Golinelli previously won the professional sprint event.
