BRIAN MURPHY

I find it very disturbing to see a cover story devoted to somebody whose claim to fame is to create “paramilitary suburban” houses and “tropical-industrial” art shops (“The Bad Boy of Architecture,” by Ronald Brownstein, July 9). If Brian Murphy wants to design like he does, if his inspiration comes from Allah (maybe?), and if his clientele is willing to pay him creative-service fees that many licensed architects couldn’t even dream of, that’s fine. But anybody (and I mean anybody) can design. Just look at what drunks, tots in kindergarten, et cetera can produce and pretend is art! I’ll be glad to show you doodles on restaurant napkins that some clients bring to architects to show them the house of their dreams that they just designed over a cup of coffee and only need the architect to “draw up the blueprints and get a permit.”
