Leaking Diesel Fuel Forces Freeway Closure

Share

Diesel fuel leaking from a truck forced the closure of a 10-mile stretch of the Golden State Freeway in Los Angeles and Burbank for more than three hours Sunday, authorities said.

The double-tanker truck was headed south on the freeway near Hollywood Way in Burbank about 4:30 a.m. when the vehicle struck an unknown object, CHP Officer Andy Gutierrez said. The object apparently punctured a tank supplying fuel to the truck.

Fuel leaked from the truck until the driver stopped near downtown Los Angeles. The freeway was closed from Hollywood Way to Glendale Boulevard until state Department of Transportation crews cleared the roadway of the fuel at 8:15 a.m.

At least two minor accidents were caused as motorists slid in the oil, Gutierrez said.
