A retired New Jersey state trooper who was severely injured last month in the crash of United Airlines Flight 232 at Sioux City, Iowa, died in the Philadelphia area hospital to which he had been transferred a few days after the disaster. The death of Harlon (Gerry) Dobson, 44, of Pittsgrove Township, N. J., in Crozier Chester Medical Center brought to 112 the number of lives lost after the DC-10’s tail engine blew apart, causing a failure of the plane’s hydraulic controls that led to the crash landing on July 19; 184 others aboard the plane survived. Dobson’s wife, Joanne, and a couple traveling with them on the Denver-to-Chicago flight were among those killed.
