Indianapolis Partners Buy the Mariners
The Seattle Mariners were sold Tuesday to two Indianapolis businessmen who promised the city that they would not move the team to Indiana.
New owners Jeff Smulyan and Michael Browning bought the American League team from George Argyros, who announced the transaction at a Seattle news conference.
No sale price was announced, but it was believed to be $76 million. The value of the club was appraised at $76.1 million in June.
The sale will have to be approved at the next owners’ meeting, Sept. 13-14, in Milwaukee, Wis.
