Notorangelo Breaks Women’s Race Mark

Susan Notorangelo of Harvard, Ill., completed the Race Across AMerica early Wednesday in a record time of 9 days, 9 hours and 9 minutes.

Notorangelo broke the women’s record of 10 days, 2 hours, 4 minutes set by Elaine Mariolle three years ago. Notorangelo also beat her own winning time in 1985 of 10 days 14 hours 25 minutes.

As of Wednesday, 12 racers had finished with two still on the course. The race began Aug. 13 in Costa Mesa, with 25 men and three women starting. Twelve men and two women withdrew.
