Plea to the Public for Saving Water

Share

This is a plea to the public to please save water in the San Clemente, Capistrano Beach and Dana Point communities.

Tri-Cities Municipal Water District operates the major water system, including a 4-million-gallon reservoir, which provides imported water to the city of San Clemente and the Capistrano Beach County Water District.

Increasing water demands have taxed our transmission and storage system to the point that the district has trouble maintaining enough reservoir storage during times of high water use, such as this summer.

Recent news coverage has described the fact that our reservoir level has been dropping to dangerously low levels. The danger lies in perhaps not having enough emergency storage available for fire protection and other critical needs.

Although major water users such as irrigators and construction companies have been asked to limit the amounts of water they use, we urgently need the public’s help to reduce water use.

Even when the present crisis subsides, water conservation awareness must be maintained because we could face the same crisis again until additional water is available to us.

In 1991, a new regional pipeline is scheduled to be completed and bring additional water to us. Until this pipeline is in service, we are subject to repeated water shortages, particularly during hot weather.

The Tri-Cities Municipal Water District asks you, the public, to please limit your use of water in and around the home and where you work.

You can make a difference, and your community will thank you for it.

President, Tri-Cities Municipal Water District
