Bob Boatman, longtime director of the “Hee Haw” television show and lighting consultant to four Presidents, was killed when a pistol accidentally discharged in his garage, police said today.

Boatman, 59, was found Monday lying in a pool of blood in the garage of his home. Authorities said a .22-caliber gun discharged when Boatman apparently pulled out a drawer too far and it fell. The gun was in the drawer.

Besides directing “Hee Haw,” Boatman worked as lighting consultant for Presidents Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.
