China’s official press broadened accusations against ousted Communist Party leader Zhao Ziyang, saying the reform-minded leader inspired attacks on government offices during the spring pro-democracy movement. The attacks by two newspapers were a possible prelude to prosecuting Zhao in what would be the first trial of a party leader in nearly a decade. The newspapers said Zhao was directly responsible for massive student marches, attacks on government offices and establishment of illegal groups through neglect of political and ideological education.
