Countywide : Board Gives Final Approval to Budget

Share

The County Board of Supervisors gave final approval to its 1989-90 fiscal year budget Wednesday, still hoping to receive additional money from the state to avoid midyear cutbacks.

County departments have had to absorb $13 million in salary increases that were granted to employees in June and July. For some departments, the salary increases could force cutbacks by early next year if more money is not found.

County officials are still hoping to receive a grant from the state next month, but they are unsure how much to expect.

The fiscal year began July 1, when supervisors tentatively adopted their budget. Hearings were held last month. The county is required to adopt a final budget by Aug. 31.
