Prime Minister Ruud Lubbers’ Christian Democratic Appeal party won national elections in the Netherlands, giving Lubbers a third term in office. With 92% of the vote counted, Dutch Television projected that Lubbers’ middle-of-the-road party will keep its 54 seats in the 150-seat Parliament and remain the largest single group. However, analysts said Lubbers may swap coalition partners to form a more left-leaning government because the coalition’s junior partner, the Liberal Party, lost five of its 27 seats.
