Helix 18, Madison 10--Jarred Parr scored twice and ran for 133 yards on 19 carries and Rob Ippolito was 9 of 12 passing for 194 yards to lead Helix at home. Ale Campos caught five passes for 105 yards, including a 47-yarder for a touchdown.

After Parr scored on a 3-yard run to give Helix a 6-0 lead, Madison took a 7-6 lead on a 15-yard pass by Mike Jones. Campos’ touchdown gave Helix a 12-7 lead at the half. Parr’s 20-yard scoring reception from Ippolito made it 18-7. Keg Parker added a 34-yard field goal in the third quarter for Madison.

Orange Glen 10, San Marcos 8--Josh Tirado scored with 1:59 remaining for host San Marcos, but Orange Glen recovered the onside kick to preserve the victory. Noel Tolaumu scored Orange Glen’s touchdown on a 13-yard run.

Mira Mesa 31, Monte Vista 6--Don Elder ran for two touchdowns, J.J. Rowlett hit Marc Ziegler with a 57-yard touchdown pass, and Robby Edwards ran 23 yards for another touchdown for host Mira Mesa. Mike Bovee also kicked a 15-yard field goal as Mira Mesa opened up a 17-0 first-half lead. Elder’s touchdown runs were for three and five yards. He rushed for 103 yards in 16 attempts and teammate Wayne Pittman added 101 yards on 10 carries. Deron Claiborne scored on a six-yard run for Monte Vista.

Patrick Henry 14, Crawford 12--Quarterback Luke Lowrey scored on a two-yard run with 31 seconds remaining to give host Patrick Henry the victory.

Lowrey’s run capped a six-play, 75-yard drive in the final 1:40. He completed three passes for 70 yards to Jason Lonsdale during the drive. Lowrey completed 11 of 21 passes for 149 yards. Patrick Henry’s other touchdown came on David Gregory’s 14-yard run.

The Patrick Henry defense held Crawford to two yards rushing in 18 attempts. But the Patrick Henry offense rushed for minus-33 yards in 27 attempts. Crawford scored on Richie McClees’ two-yard run and on a 16-yard pass from Chris Townsend to Allah Hille.

Santana 21, La Jolla 21--Santana missed a 34-yard field goal with just under a minute to play, settling for a tie at La Jolla in the teams’ first meeting. For Santana, Andy Penwarden rushed 17 times for 116 yards and teammate Ferdi Hollis completed seven of 11 passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns. Nick Alford gained 40 yards in seven carries for La Jolla.

St. Augustine 29, Clairemont 12--Hunter Buckner carried 18 times for 130 yards and two touchdowns for visiting St. Augustine. Quarterback Marco Cabamillas hooked up with Jason Alcozer for two more St. Augustine touchdowns on passes of 25 and 22 yards. Cabamillas passed for 121 yards.

Chula Vista 20, Amphitheater (Ariz.) 10--The Spartans held Amphitheater, Arizona’s third-ranked team in preseason polls, to 161 yards. Chula Vista quarterback Derek Chapman was 9 for 16 passing for 133 yards and running back Trenell Hicks rushed 19 times for 80 yards and two touchdowns.

San Diego 24, Marian 6--Keith Green rushed for 115 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Cavers at San Diego. The Cavers gained 186 yards rushing and 165 passing for 351 yards on offense. Wide receiver Alex Hayslett caught four passes for 97 yards. On defense, Mario Valenzuela had two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

Mt. Carmel 33, Escondido 7--Tony Eannucci scored two touchdowns and Pat Abare kicked four field goals, one a 42-yarder, to lead visiting Mt. Carmel. The Mt. Carmel defense recovered a fumble in the end zone for the Sundevils’ other touchdown.

Mar Vista 41, Coronado 0--Richard Vega scored touchdowns on runs of five and 15 yards and finished with 117 yards in 21 attempts for visiting Mar Vista. Teammate Jim Weaver added 68 yards on 13 carries.

Palm Desert 16, Fallbrook 7--Kelly Fieux threw for 255 yards, including a touchdown pass to Ronnie Fox, for visiting Fallbrook.

Valhalla 35, Hilltop 17--David Eastlake completed 12 of 23 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns to lead Valhalla at Hilltop. Valhalla’s Chris Couglan caught seven passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns and Scott Lapinski added 103 yards rushing in 16 carries.

Kearny 25, El Capitan 7--Tom Rawlins connected with Darney Scott for three touchdowns for visiting Kearny. Rawlins completed 10 of 13 passes for 164 yards.

Dana Hills 15, Ramona 0--Matt Carvalho scored on 55 and 23-yard touchdown runs for Dana Hills. Ramona is 1-1.

Lincoln 28, Nogales 12--Lincoln scored on its last two possessions of the first half on its way to a 15-6 halftime lead. Terrell Davis scored on a three-yard run after a fumble recovery. Lincoln took advantage of another fumble recovery when Dwayne McAfee scored on a 49-yard pass from Mike Temple with a minute left in the half.
