Bob Estes used five birdies on the front nine at the En-Joie Golf Club to pass front-runner Keith Clearwater and take the third-round lead Saturday in the $500,000 B.C. Open golf tournament at Endicott, N.Y.

Estes, 23, of Abilene, Tex., shot a five-under-par 66 for a 54-hole total of 200 and a one-stroke edge over Dave Eichelberger, who had his third straight 677.

Fuzzy Zoeller, who briefly tied Estes for the lead at 13 under par before dropping back because of a pair of bogeys, shot a 66 and was third at 202. Clearwater, who shot a 70, was at 203 with Mike Hulbert and Jim Booros, who had 68s.

Clearwater, who led after the first two rounds, fell from the top of the leader board early in the round. He bogeyed the second hole moments after Estes sank a birdie on the same green.

The second round of the PGA Seniors GTE North tournament was canceled after powerful thunderstorms swept through Indianapolis, rendering Broadmoor Country Club unplayable. The scheduled 54-hole tournament was reduced to 36 holes, with Saturday’s round scrubbed, tournament officials said.

Canadian Dawn Coe, seeking her first LPGA title, shot a one-under-par 71 for a 139 total and a four-stroke lead in the Cellular One-Ping LPGA tournament at Portland, Ore.

Tied for second at 143 were Patty Sheehan, Susan Sanders, Martha Nause and Muffin Spencer-Devlin, who posted the day’s best round, a 69.
