Former Delaware governor Pierre (Pete) du Pont IV, an unsuccessful candidate for the Republican presidential nomination last year, is entering the cable race. He’s created a one-hour pilot, called “Panoply: A Consumer’s Guide to the Information Age,” which will air prime time on Sept. 24 on CNBC, the NBC-owned business and consumer cable network. The exact time slot is still to be chosen. Du Pont will introduce the program and participate on the panel that will include Harvard law professor Arthur Miller, three print and electronic journalists, and three “avaricious consumers of journalism.” The pilot will focus on how CBS’ “60 Minutes” treated the Alar-on-apples issue and the media coverage of the Chilean grapes scare. A spokesman for CNBC said the Du Pont project could become a monthly feature of the network.
