The State : Three Rescued From Life Raft

Share

Three San Diego men were rescued from a life raft off Monterey where they had drifted for nearly seven hours after their 57-foot cabin cruiser collided with a whale, the Coast Guard reported. William Reich, 45, Charles Gray, 40, and Mark Felix, 39, were in good condition when they were picked up by the Coast Guard from a life raft about 13 miles west of Cape San Martin, Coast Guard spokeswoman Elizabeth Neely said. The men had radioed a Mayday call, saying their cabin cruiser, the Lady Ruth, was taking on water. Shortly before losing radio contact, the men said the vessel had struck a whale about eight miles south of Point Sur.
