Golf Roundup : Hulbert Shoots 65, Rallies to Win B.C. Open Playoff

Mike Hulbert parred the first playoff hole on Sunday to beat Bob Estes and win the $500,000 B.C. Open at Endicott, N.Y.

Hulbert shot a final-round, six-under-par 65, for his first victory on the tour since 1986. He won $90,000.

Both finished with 16-under-par 268 totals and each had an opportunity on to win on the final hole of regulation but missed long birdie putts.

Steve Elkington matched the En-Joie Golf Club course record with a 62, giving him sole possession of third place at 269.

Hulbert trailed Estes by three strokes entering the final round and started the day with a bogey. He rallied for four consecutive birdies to pull into tie with Estes, Dave Eichelberger and Elkington.

Muffin Spencer-Devlin won her first LPGA event in three years by shooting a one-under-par 71 to take a one-stroke victory in the $300,000 Cellular One-Ping Championship at Portland, Ore.

Spencer-Devlin finished at two-under 214 on the par-72, 6,258-yard Riverside Golf & Country Club course.

The outcome was in doubt until the final hole when Spencer-Devlin knocked in a 3-foot putt for par. Canadian Dawn Coe and Susan Sanders of Salem, Ore., both of whom blew big leads in the final round, wound up tied with Nancy Lopez and Tammie Green for second.

Gary Player birdied the 15th and 16 holes to win his second straight PGA Seniors GTE North tournament at Indianapolis.

Player won the rain-shortened event with a 36-hole total of 135, nine under par, one stroke ahead of Joe Jimenez, Al Geiberger and Billy Casper, who tied for second place.
