A Cincinnati judge has fined three members of the rap groups NWA and Too Short $100 each on charges of disorderly conduct, saying their Riverfront Coliseum concert was lewd and disgraceful. Too Short member Todd Shaw, 23, of Hayward, Calif., and NWA members Osea (Ice Cube) Jackson, 20, of Los Angeles, and Lorenzo Patterson, 22, of Long Beach also were ordered to pay $30 each in court costs. Two other NWA members--Antoine Carraby, 27, and Eric (Eazy-E) Wright, 25, both of Compton--faced hearings on the charges. The judge rejected a motion to dismiss the case on grounds the charges violated the performers’ freedom of speech. The defense attorney conceded that the performers repeatedly asked members of the youthful audience to come onto the stage to engage in sex acts, but said that didn’t constitute disorderly conduct. “What may be offensive to some is entertainment to others,” the attorney told the judge.
