P.M. BRIEFING : Caribbean Tourism Body Bars Cuba
Caribbean tourism ministers rejected Cuba’s application to join the the Caribbean Tourism Organization, but said it could be considered in the future.
Baltron Beth, chairman of the 29-member CTO, said the group’s Council of Ministers has “deferred” Cuba’s application.
“But the door is left open in the fulfillment of certain requirements,” especially the recognition of the government of the island of Grenada.
Cuba has consistently refused to grant Grenada official recognition since the 1983 U.S.-led invasion that dislodged the Marxist People’s Revolutionary Government.
