CBS, trying to bring rationality to “the mad flurry” of prime-time series selection, said Wednesday it will move directly into a year-round schedule for pilot development and production. The new plan doesn’t necessarily involve more pilots or more expense but would spread the development process over three four-month cycles rather than what Howard Stringer, president of the CBS Broadcast Group, termed the current “rat race.” Kim LeMasters, president of CBS Entertainment, said this “breakthrough system” ought to allow the network a better chance at getting the best actors, writers and producers because CBS will be open for business over 52 weeks.
