The Volunteer League of the San Fernando Valley on Sept. 9 presented “An Evening Under the Stars,” featuring the Pointer Sisters, at the Universal Amphitheatre. The event raised $30,000. Proceeds will be used to fund the League’s ongoing community service projects. Maryanne Irving was benefit chairwoman.

The “Dream Street” Country Fair on Sept. 9 at the Paramount Studios raised more than $100,000. Camp Dream Street gives children suffering from life-threatening blood disorders a chance to enjoy camping.

The Jewish National Fund, Southern California Region, at its Sept. 10 luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, honored Roslyn Kind, mother of Barbra Streisand, with the Keren Dorot Family Fund award. The event raised more than $75,000 and supports more than 20 nonprofit organizations.

The Anti-Defamation League held its Civic Commitment Award dinner-dance on Sept. 12 at the Century Plaza Hotel, honoring Carter Hawley Hale Stores Inc. and the Broadway Southern California. Proceeds (net $400,000) will go to continue the fight against bigotry in the United States and abroad.

The Quest Foundation held its Third Annual luncheon on Sept. 15 at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago restaurant and raised $30,000. Proceeds will be used to build a 24-hour specialized care facility to house children suffering from Prader-Willi syndrome. Co-founders Toni Campoy and Anne Scott were hosts for the event.

The American Diabetes Assn. held its Fabulous Fifth Caper on Sept. 17 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel with entertainers Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager performing. The event netted $210,000 that will be used to continue programs and research on a diabetes cure. Barbara Prober and Sunny Deutschman were co-chairs.
