Culver City : Garage and Stores Win OK
As part of its plan to revitalize downtown, the Culver City Redevelopment Agency on Monday voted 4 to 1 to develop a five-level public parking structure and retail facility on a 66,000-square-foot block it owns.
Preliminary plans for the block, bounded by Main Street and Washington, Ince and Culver boulevards, call for a 500-space parking structure, including one underground level, and 20,000 square feet of office space on either the ground or top floor, according to a staff report.
The parking structure would provide most of the 580 spaces estimated to be needed in the area. The mixed parking and retail use was recommended by staff over alternatives, such as a park, senior housing, and mixed public parking and office use.
Agency member Steven Gourley voted against the measure, saying it would be more prudent to wait and see what is planned for sites next to the plot before making a decision.
