Hurricane Hugo helped Quail Hollow Country Club in Charlotte, N.C., bid farewell to professional golf when damage caused by heavy winds forced cancellation of the PaineWebber Invitational Senior PGA tournament.
Officials said the event would probably not be rescheduled. The tournament moves next August, after 10 years at Quail Hollow, to the Tournament Players Club at Piper Glen in Charlotte.
Friday’s races at Pimlico in Baltimore were also canceled because of Hugo’s passage through Maryland, a track spokesman said.
