The Nation : Thousands Mourn School Bus Victims
Thousands of people from throughout the Rio Grande Valley filled churches for funerals of victims of a school bus accident that claimed the lives of 20 children. “After all, all we have left is one another,” Father Frank Quezada told more than 3,000 mourners gathered at the Virgin of San Juan del Valle Shrine in San Juan, Tex., for a joint funeral for four victims. Hundreds of others gathered at funerals at local churches throughout the day for victims of last week’s accident near Alton, Tex., in which a truck rammed the school bus into a water-filled pit. Sixty-three persons were injured. Federal investigators today planned to re-enact part of the accident in an effort to determine the cause of the collision.
