San Jose State Holds Off Pacific
San Jose State withstood a late rally by the University of the Pacific and held on for a 41-32 victory Saturday in a Big West Conference game.
Pacific (0-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference) scored 25 points in about 15 minutes, covering both the third and fourth quarters to cut San Jose’s lead to 34-32.
San Jose fullback Johnny Johnson, who tied his school record with four touchdowns, added the game’s final score, a five-yard run with 22 seconds to play. San Jose is 1-1 overall, 1-0 in the Big West.
Johnson, who had a career-high 11 receptions for 203 yards, gave San Jose State a 21-point lead as he scored three times in the first quarter.
Sheldon Canley rushed for 142 yards for San Jose. Canley also had 121 yards in five kickoff returns.
