Amway Settles Canadian Tax Fraud Suit: Amway Corp. has agreed to pay the Canadian government $38.1 million to settle a $125.4-million tax fraud lawsuit filed 10 years ago, officials said. The settlement, combined with a $21-million criminal fine paid by Ada, Mich.-based Amway to the Province of Ontario in 1983, brings to $59 million the amount the giant direct-sales company has paid to end its legal troubles in Canada. Canada’s revenue agency had accused Amway of avoiding custom duties by undervaluing merchandise it exported from 1974-80 from the United States to Canadian distributors.
