Countywide : Bush to Present Awards to 5 County Schools
Irvine, Mission Viejo, Fullerton and Los Alamitos high schools and McFadden Intermediate School--along with 26 other California secondary schools--will receive National Secondary Recognition Awards from the U.S. Department of Education at a ceremony on the White House lawn Thursday.
President Bush plans to speak at the ceremony, honoring schools that California Supt. of Public Instruction Bill Honig said show outstanding “school leadership, teaching environments, learning environments, institutional vitality and print and community support.”
Department of Education officials review the state nominations, then several schools are picked for on-site visits by national education leaders.
Nationally, 176 schools earned the awards.
