SIDELINES : Longo Posts Record in 5 Kilometers

MEXICO CITY —
French cyclist Jeannie Longo set a world record for 5 kilometers today, covering the distance in 6 minutes, 14.135 seconds.
The record surpassed her time of 6:14.813 on Sept. 9, 1987, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Light rain fell as she made the run and there was moderate wind.
