Final Design Approved for $8-Million Theater Complex

The Glendale Redevelopment Agency on Tuesday approved final design plans for an $8-million multi-screen theater complex to be built in the Exchange, a two-block downtown renovation project.

Construction of the eight-screen, 1,800-seat, two-story movie complex--to be built between Maryland Avenue and Louise Street north of Broadway--is expected to begin in November with completion scheduled for next summer, said William Holderness of Brand Development, the builder.

The complex will feature a dramatic $100,000 antique leaded- and stained-glass dome and marquee at the Maryland entrance leading to a long passageway flanked by restaurants.

Mann Theatres will lease the complex, which will eventually replace several outdated theaters operated by Mann on Brand Boulevard.

“It is going to be the most state-of-the-art theater built in Los Angeles County,” Holderness said.
