Bank Robber Gets $290,000

A lone gunman made off with a trash bag stuffed with $290,000 Thursday morning after robbing a branch of the Bank of America in La Palma, police said.

The FBI later released a surveillance photograph of the suspect, at right, and asked that anyone who recognizes him call its bank-robbery hot line, (800) 442-2244.

“We have to search some of our other files for both (method) and description, but to the best of my knowledge we have not seen him before,” said Bucky Cox, bank robbery supervisor in the FBI’s Santa Ana office.

La Palma Police Sgt. Jeff Kirkpatrick said the robber entered the bank about 9:25 a.m. with a handgun, demanded money, then drove off in an imported brown sedan with his trash bag full of cash.

Police described the suspect as a male of Latino or Middle Eastern origin who spoke with an accent, in his late 20s or early 30s, 5-feet-6 to 5-8, 150 to 160 pounds, with dark brown hair.
