Tennis Roundup : Lendl Turns Back Duncan, Makes It to Quarterfinals

Ivan Lendl of Czechoslovakia moved into the quarterfinals of the $255,000 Passing Shot tournament by beating Lawson Duncan, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7), Thursday at Bordeaux, France.

Lendl, the top-ranked player in the world, will meet Henri Leconte of France in the quarterfinals. Leconte downed Jimmy Brown, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

In other matches, fourth-seeded Jaimie Ycaza of Peru won by default over Juan Aguilera of Spain, and Cassio Motta of Brazil beat Marian Vajda of Czechoslovakia, 1-6, 6-0, 7-6 (8-6).

Top-seeded Alberto Mancini of Argentina beat Austrian qualifier Stefan Lochbihler, 6-4, 6-0, to reach the quarterfinals of the $123,400 International Championship at Palermo, Sicily.

Eighth-seeded Goran Ivanisevic of Yugoslavia beat Italy’s Simone Colombo 6-4, 7-6, and will meet Mancini in the quarterfinals.

In other third-round matches, unseeded Pavel Vojtisek of West Germany overpowered Omar Camporese of Italy, 6-1, 6-0, and Peter Ballauff of West Germany beat Roberto Azar of Argentina, 6-4, 6-4.
