Murder charges will not be filed against Linda Davis, a 32-year-old Escondido woman who shot her husband to death after he attacked her with a baseball bat Sept. 10.

A district attorney’s office review of the police investigation indicated that Davis acted in self-defense when she shot her husband, 36-year-old James Davis, four times in the chest with a .38-caliber semiautomatic pistol, according to Deputy District Atty. Greg Walden.

Linda Davis, a self-professed psychic known as Kelly Roberts, has aided law enforcement agencies in locating missing persons and suspects. She told a Times reporter shortly after the shooting that she had had an ominous feeling on the day of the shooting.

She said she had purchased a gun and carried it with her for several months before the shooting because her husband had undergone severe personality changes.

On the day of the shooting, Linda Davis said that her husband attacked her with the bat, acting as if “. . . he was chasing down an animal he was trying to club to death.”

According to Escondido police, Linda Davis suffered blows to the head and face during the altercation and also an apparently self-inflicted bullet wound in the leg.

The Davis’ two daughters, ages 7 and 9, were in the next room when the shooting occurred. One of the children ran to a neighbor’s house for help at her mother’s request.

Linda Davis told police that her husband had become very angry on the day of the shooting while the two were discussing getting a divorce.
