This is the most disappointing time of year for me when network television serves up its usually mindless drivel like day-old bread. Cable is nothing more than network programming of the past. Independent television in Los Angeles was once my savior, but not anymore.

“A Current Affair” never covers anything timely. “Inside Report” is more pitiful sensationalism sensible humans reject. And I’ve become annoyed with the abundance of cop shows--real-life drama, mind you. “Crimewatch Tonight,” the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back, has bumped “Star Trek” on KCOP. Replacing a positive, intelligent, classic adventure series with more ludicrous, gun-wielding violence is the ultimate absurdity. Such police “sitcoms” do more to create crime than to prevent it.
