James Brown, the currently jailed R&B; singer, has volunteered to perform at a concert to benefit the victims of Hurricane Hugo. Brown, who is serving a six-year sentence in State Park Correctional Facility in Columbia, South Carolina, said he was deeply saddened by the destruction that ripped the state and displaced nearly 100,000 of its residents. “I simply want to do what I can to help restore these people’s lives, feed the hungry and house the homeless,” said Brown. He said he hopes to raise $500,000 from this relief effort, which is scheduled for November at South Carolina’s Carlina Coliseum, though no exact date has been set.
