U.S. District Court Judge Charles Norgle in Chicago refused to dismiss a $100-million libel suit filed by former Indian Prime Minister Morarji Desai against Pulitzer Prize-winning author Seymour Hersh. Hersh’s 1983 book, “The Price of Power: Kissinger in the Nixon White House,” contends that Desai was a paid CIA informant for years before becoming prime minister. Desai, 93, was prime minister of India from 1977 to 1979. The highlight of Desai’s case was testimony Monday by former Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger. Kissinger said he doubted Desai was an informant, but said that he was never given the names of U.S. intelligence sources.
