From Times wire services

A 15-year-old computer hacker has been charged with breaking into the computer system of the Grumman Corp., one of the nation’s major defense contractors, police said today.

The teen-ager from the New York City suburb of Levittown gained access to a computer that Grumman used to handle military customers including the Pentagon, they said.

But company spokesman Sandy Jones said no classified information was compromised.

Jones said all the material the youth had gained access to was recovered and he was caught because Grumman’s own computers detected his illegal entry into the system.

The youth, whose name was withheld by police, was charged with juvenile deliquency.

Grumman, based in Bethpage, N.Y., makes the F-14 fighter jet and other naval attack craft.
