A’s May Not Have Lansford Today

Share

Oakland Athletics third baseman Carney Lansford pulled his left hamstring in the seventh inning of a 7-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Friday night and is an uncertain starter in Game 4 of the American League playoffs today.

Lansford, who batted .336 during the regular season and has five hits in 11 at-bats in the playoffs, missed seven games with a strain to the same hamstring in early June.

He was running out a ground ball to third base Friday night when the injury happened. Lansford said he heard the crowd react when Kelly Gruber momentarily bobbled the ball, dug in harder and felt the hamstring “grab just the way it did earlier in the season.”

“I don’t know about tomorrow,” Lansford said. “They have a left-hander (Mike Flanagan) going. If I can tape it and it feels all right, I’ll be in there.”
