‘Max’ Deserves Credit

Share

Concerning the article about science fiction on television (“The Fall Season: From the Outer Limits,” Oct. 1) I didn’t feel that the innovative and well-written series “Max Headroom” deserved to be simply dismissed as a “failure.”

“Max Headroom” went way beyond the pedestrian aspirations of most of today’s science-fiction series. This is a program which tried to knock us out of our apathy concerning the sorry state of network television. But it was more than that. It also told us about ourselves. Episodes tackled subjects like illiteracy and religion, and the writing lacked the condescending attitude of other series’ writing, which was refreshing.

Do you see many other science-fiction producers today who assume that their audience might want more than mindless entertainment, that they might actually want to learn something?
