Hawthorne Parks Foundation Honored

Recognition for outstanding community service has been received by the Hawthorne Parks and Recreation Foundation. The nonprofit organization was chosen for the award by the Los Angeles Basin Parks and Recreation commissioners and board members.

The foundation was honored for its donations of funds for materials and equipment for recreation. Among achievements recognized by the awards selection committee are: production of a quarterly program listing Hawthorne Parks and Recreation schedules and events; purchase of games and equipment for the Teen Center; establishment of the Richard F. Huhn Fund to raise funds for a new, multipurpose lodge at the Hawthorne Youth Camp in the Big Pines area of Angeles National Forest near Wrightwood, and assistance in providing funds to let needy children attend the city’s summer camp program at Big Pines.
