Mike Gaddis ran for 274 yards and three touchdowns, leading No. 16 Oklahoma to a 37-15 victory over Oklahoma State Saturday at Norman, Okla.

Gaddis, who had 213 yards against Oklahoma State last season as a freshman, carried 29 times and scored on runs of 24, 80 and four yards. It was the third-best rushing day in school history, 20 yards fewer than Greg Pruitt’s record.

The game was a matchup of teams on National Collegiate Athletic Assn. probation. The NCAA put Oklahoma on three years’ probation in December, and handed Oklahoma State a four-year probation a month later.

The Sooners improved to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in the Big Eight. Oklahoma State is 1-4 and 0-1 after losing to Oklahoma for the 13th consecutive time.

The 80-yard touchdown run by Gaddis late in the third quarter gave the Sooners a 20-15 lead. His score came two plays after Cary Blanchard had kicked his third field goal of the quarter, a 52-yarder that pulled the Cowboys to 23-15.

The Sooners recovered a fumble by Mike Gundy at the Oklahoma State 22-yard line in the fourth quarter to set up Gaddis’ final touchdown.

Gundy became the Big Eight’s career passing leader by throwing for 160 yards, although he completed only 13 of 32. He has thrown for 6,490 yards, surpassing the record of 6,410 by Frank Seuer of Kansas.
