Warriors Sign Marques Johnson

Marques Johnson, a five-time National Basketball Assn. all-star and comeback player of the year in 1985-86, is trying for still another comeback with the Golden State Warriors after signing a one-year contract Saturday. Terms were not announced.

Johnson, 33, a 6-foot-7 unrestricted free agent, last played with the Clippers in 1986, when he suffered a serious neck injury in a collision with teammate Benoit Benjamin.

The former UCLA All-American was the No. 1 draft choice of the Milwaukee Bucks in 1977. He played for Warrior Coach Don Nelson, while both were with the Bucks, before being traded to the Clippers in 1984.

Johnson ranks 14th among active NBA players with 13,852 points.
